From its perched position, Gerace has a wide, panoramic view over most of the Locri area. The small town, which still preserves a medieval setting and charm, is located in the Aspromonte National Park.
The old village is full of churches and old, empty buildings that were dug directly into the rock and once served as homes and workshops. One can admire the castle, the cathedral, the church of San Francesco, a number of small Byzantine churches and numerous civil constructions of various periods and architectural styles.
